About the Artist
Artist Statement: "
Nature has always been my greatest source of joy. As a child, I was perfectly content simply observing the animals around me—their movements, their habits, the quiet ways they exist. That sense of wonder never left me. Even now, being immersed in the natural world is where I feel most at peace.
I’ve always been mesmerized by pencil art. There’s something quietly powerful about creating such a wide range of textures and fine details with such a simple, humble tool. It allows me to render my subjects with both precision and softness—capturing not just their likeness, but their presence.
With monochrome work, it’s easy for a piece to be passed by with just a glance. That’s why I strive to make art that asks the viewer to pause. To look closer. To truly see the subject before them. In that moment of attention, perhaps they’ll feel a spark of connection—maybe even a renewed appreciation for the creature or scene they might have otherwise overlooked.".
Background
Tammy was born in 1975, in the Catskill Mountains of upstate NY. A self-taught artist who returned to the art world after a 15-year hiatus.
She works primarily in charcoal and graphite, rendering her subjects in extensive detail, the hope is that this will draw viewers closer to the animal or landscape and perhaps spark an interest in them. To see the beauty she sees within the natural world.
For the past 20 years, Tammy has resided in the rural town of Greenville, NY enjoying the farmland, forests and mountain views that surround her home. Her work has been exhibited in notable galleries such as the Salmagundi Club (NYC), Abend Gallery (Denver, CO), McBride Gallery (Annapolis, MD) and Principle Galleries (Charleston, SC & Alexandria, VA). Her work has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, Western Art Collector and Hyperrealism Magazine.
Tammy is also one of the artists included in the Lunar Codex: Artists on the Moon, where her drawing titled "Snapshot Series 4: Solace" will be digitally catalogued and sent to space on two of the three upcoming NASA payload launches. (See the Home Page for a link to the article).
She is a Signature Member of the American Artists Professional League (AAPL), and a Signature Founding Member of Cowgirl Artists of America (CGA).
